What Is a Microcement Worktop?
Seamless Decorative Concrete Worktops
At GreenCork, we install microcement worktops and countertops across Leeds and West Yorkshire. Microcement is a specialist cement-based decorative coating applied by hand to create a seamless surface, offering an alternative to traditional stone, laminate and tiled worktops.
Applied in thin layers of approximately 2–3mm, microcement can often be installed over an existing worktop, reducing the need for removal and replacement. Once fully sealed, it provides a durable, water-resistant surface suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and commercial spaces.
One of the main benefits of microcement is its ability to create a continuous finish with no visible joints. The worktop and upstand can be finished as a single surface, creating a clean, contemporary look that is both practical and easy to maintain.

Can Microcement Be Applied Over Existing Worktops?
Microcement can often be applied over existing wood and MDF, laminate worktops, marble, granite, tiled surfaces and solid surface worktops, provided the substrate is sound, stable and correctly prepared before installation.
For long-term performance, the substrate must be sound, stable and free from movement. Where necessary, repairs, specialist primers and reinforcement systems are used as part of the preparation process.
Before Application
Existing worktops must be stable, structurally sound and properly prepared before installation. Surface preparation and reinforcement are critical to achieving a durable finished surface.
- Always use chopping boards for food preparation
- Avoid cutting directly on the surface
- Use trivets or heat protection for hot cookware
- Don't leave spills sitting on the surface.
- Follow manufacturer maintenance recommendations

Microconcrete offers a more textured finish with a stronger concrete character. It creates a rawer, more industrial appearance than AQUA QUARTZ and is often chosen by clients who prefer visible texture over a smoother decorative finish.

Why Homeowners Choose Microcement Worktops
Here are some of the reasons homeowners are increasingly choosing microcement over traditional worktop materials.
Seamless Surface Design
Microcement creates a continuous finish with no grout lines or visible joints, helping achieve a clean and contemporary appearance.
Worktop Resurfacing Without Replacement
Existing worktops can often be renovated rather than removed, reducing disruption and unnecessary waste.
Colour & Finish Options
A wide range of colours, textures and varnish finishes allows each project to be tailored to the surrounding interior design.
Minimal Additional Thickness
Applied at approximately 2 to 3 mm thick, microcement adds very little height to existing surfaces.
Modern Concrete-Effect
Achieve the look of polished concrete without the weight, thickness or installation requirements of traditional concrete worktops.
Low Maintenance Surface
Correctly sealed microcement worktops are easy to clean using non-abrasive cleaning products and routine household maintenance.
