WHY CHOOSE US

Rendering and Wall Coatings for Cookridge Properties

GreenCork Ltd carries out rendering, SprayCork insulation and wall coating work across Cookridge and the LS16 area, including Tinshill, Adel, Horsforth, Bramhope and Weetwood. The area is largely made up of post-war semi-detached homes, many finished in pebbledash or sand-and-cement render that is now reaching the end of its lifespan.

Cookridge sits at a higher elevation than much of Leeds, leaving exposed walls open to sustained wind, rain and freeze–thaw cycles. Over time, this leads to cracking, hollow render and algae staining, particularly on north and west-facing elevations. These issues are a common reason for re-rendering or coating work across LS16.

GreenCork assesses each surface during the survey, identifying whether the existing render can be coated over or requires removal. Breathable systems such as SprayCork and silicone render are selected to suit the condition of the wall and improve long-term performance.

25 Year Warranty

Long-term protection designed to resist cracking, peeling and surface failure.

Lower Costs

Reduced upkeep, fewer repairs and no need for regular repainting.

This is the most common question GreenCork receives from Cookridge homeowners, and the answer depends entirely on the condition of the specific pebbledash on your property not on a blanket policy.

If the pebbledash is still firmly bonded to the wall and sounds solid when tapped across the surface, SprayCork or silicone render can be applied directly over it. This saves the cost and disruption of a full hack-off. If it is hollow in sections which is common on the upper elevations of LS16 properties after 60–70 years those sections need removing and the substrate preparing before a new system can be applied.

GreenCork carries out a systematic tap-test assessment across every elevation at the free survey visit and will only recommend removal where the surface genuinely cannot support a new coating. We will not recommend removal if it is not needed.

Cookridge sits at approximately 150 metres above sea level on a ridge between the Aire and Wharfe valleys, higher than central Leeds and many surrounding LS postcodes. This elevation leaves west and north-west facing walls exposed to prevailing westerly weather, including sustained rain in autumn and winter and more frequent frost than lower-lying areas.

Over time, this exposure places stress on rigid sand-and-cement render and ageing pebbledash. Small cracks allow water in, which expands when frozen and gradually worsens the damage. Flexible coatings such as SprayCork are better suited to these conditions, as they move with the wall and help reduce the risk of cracking.

Yes. The post-war semi-detached homes across Cookridge Drive, Cookridge Avenue, Woodhill Grove and Tinshill Lane are among the most common property types GreenCork works on in LS16. Most have pebbledash, roughcast or sand-and-cement render. SprayCork and silicone render can be applied to these surfaces, either over the existing finish if it is sound or to the prepared substrate where removal is required.

GreenCork checks the condition of the surface during every survey before recommending a system. The choice between SprayCork and silicone render depends on whether improved insulation is a priority and whether areas of movement require a more flexible finish.

Yes. Internal spray cork is particularly relevant for Cookridge’s 1960s and 1970s semis where the cavity may be empty, partially filled or no longer performing effectively. These properties can have cold internal wall surfaces in north-facing rooms even with cavity construction.

SprayCork applied to the internal face of the external wall helps raise the surface temperature, reducing condensation and the risk of mould. The coating is breathable and applied in a thin layer to existing plaster or plasterboard, then skimmed and painted. No external scaffolding is required, and planning permission is not usually needed for residential use.
