What Is a Microcement Wet Room?
Seamless Microcement Coating for Wet Rooms Without Grout Lines
A microcement wet room is a fully waterproof level-access shower space finished with a seamless decorative concrete coating instead of traditional tiles and grout. The result is a continuous waterproof floor and wall surface with no grout lines, shower trays or visible joins.
Because wet rooms are exposed to constant moisture and direct water contact, the waterproofing system is critical. Microcement works particularly well in wet rooms as the sealed surface reduces joints, edges and grout lines where mould, staining and moisture problems typically develop.
At GreenCork Ltd, we install seamless microcement wet rooms across Leeds and West Yorkshire for modern bathrooms, en-suites and walk-in shower spaces using fully waterproof systems installed to manufacturer specification.

Tiled Wet Room vs Microcement Wet Room
Traditional tiled wet rooms rely on grout joints, silicone seals and tile edges across the shower floor and surrounding walls. In a fully open wet room environment, these areas are exposed to constant moisture, regular cleaning and direct water contact every day.
Microcement wet rooms use a seamless waterproof decorative coating instead of grout-lined tiles, creating one continuous surface across floors, shower walls and drainage areas with far fewer maintenance points over time.
- Grout lines across shower floors and walls absorb moisture and collect everyday staining.
- Drain edges and floor junctions are common areas for mould, discolouration and sealant failure.
- Silicone joints around the perimeter usually require replacement over time.
- Regrouting tiled wet rooms can become part of long-term bathroom maintenance.
- Seamless waterproof wet room finish with no grout lines or tile joints.
- Continuous floor-to-wall surface around drains, shower areas and recessed niches.
- Sealed decorative concrete surfaces are easier to clean and maintain than grout-lined tiles.
- No tiled perimeter joints or regrouting cycle required under normal use.
Where Microcement Works in a Wet Room
A microcement wet room works best when the same seamless waterproof finish runs continuously across the floor, walls and shower areas, removing grout lines and joints where moisture problems can develop over time.
Wet Room Floors
Wet room floors must be fully waterproof, correctly sloped towards the drain and finished with the appropriate anti-slip specification for safe everyday use.
Wet Room Walls
Microcement creates a continuous waterproof wall finish around open shower areas with no grout lines or tiled wall joints.
Shower Niches & Alcoves
Niches and recessed shelving can be finished in the same seamless coating as the surrounding walls without separate trims or grout joints.
Drain Surrounds
Drain areas are one of the most important waterproofing points within a wet room and require careful preparation before installation begins.
Door Thresholds
The minimal 2 to 3 mm build-up of microcement helps create cleaner low-profile transitions between the wet room and adjoining spaces.
Wet Room Ceilings
Microcement can also be applied across ceilings to create a fully continuous waterproof finish throughout the entire wet room space.
Choosing the Right Microcement Finish for Your Wet Room
At GreenCork Ltd, we install fully waterproof microcement systems for wet room floors, walls, shower areas and drain surrounds. Each finish creates a different level of texture and concrete-style character depending on the look and feel you want within the space.

FAQ'S
Frequently Asked Questions
If you are considering a microcement wet room, we can assess the space during a free survey and provide clear advice with a no obligation quotation.
Speak to a real expert. No call centres.
Send us photos or questions, we’ll reply fast.
Does the floor need a slope before microcement is installed?
Yes, and this is critical. The correct fall to the drain, typically a 1 to 2 per cent gradient across the floor, must be formed within the screed or concrete base before any microcement installation begins. Microcement follows the surface beneath it and cannot be used to create the slope itself. We assess the floor fall and drain height during the survey and advise if any remedial work is required before installation can proceed.
Does the floor need a slope before microcement is installed?
Yes, in most cases. All existing tiles must be fully bonded with no hollow or loose areas. Any hollow, cracked or damaged tiles must be re-fixed or replaced before work begins. A fibreglass reinforcement mesh is embedded into the first base coat to bridge grout joints. We also check that the existing tiled wet room has been correctly waterproofed beneath the tiles. If there is evidence of water ingress behind the tile system, the tiles must be removed and the substrate treated before installation can proceed.
What anti-slip specification do you sue for wet floors?
Anti-slip microspheres are added to the polyurethane varnish during the final stage of installation. The quantity used determines the slip resistance rating, with C2 typically specified for general wet room floors and C3 for direct shower areas, accessible wet rooms and commercial spaces. We confirm the correct specification for your wet room in the written quotation and discuss the balance between slip resistance and ease of cleaning before installation begins.
How is drain junction handled in a microcement wet room?
The drain must be set to the correct finished surface height before any microcement is applied. The drain flange sits flush with the final surface level, allowing the microcement to run continuously up to and around the drain edge. AQUA QUARTZ is specifically designed to reduce moisture staining around drain junctions. There are no grout lines, silicone beads or perimeter sealant joints around the drain area.
What happens if there is damp underneath the wet room floor?
Microcement cannot be applied over floors with active capillary moisture or damp issues. Trapped moisture beneath the sealed surface can lead to staining and adhesion failure over time. We check for this during the survey and advise if waterproofing or tanking work is required before installation begins.
How much does microcement for wet room cost?
Pricing depends on the wet room size, surface preparation required, anti-slip specification and the finish selected. We provide free site surveys and written quotations for microcement wet rooms across Leeds and West Yorkshire.
