WHY CHOOSE US

Breathable Coatings for Adel’s Mixed Property Types

GreenCork Ltd provides rendering, SprayCork insulation and wall coating services across Adel and the LS16 area, including Bramhope, Cookridge, Weetwood and nearby parts of the Wharfe Valley. Adel features a mix of property styles, from older stone buildings around Church Lane to 1930s detached homes and later extensions.

Because of this variety, wall surfaces differ from property to property. Older stone and lime-rendered buildings need breathable coatings that allow moisture to escape, while many mid-century homes have rendered extensions that weather differently from the original brickwork. Each property is assessed individually to determine the most suitable system.

Some parts of Adel fall within a conservation area, where external changes may require planning approval. Guidance is provided during the survey, and any requirements are confirmed before work begins.

Every project begins with a free site visit, where all elevations are checked and the most appropriate solution is recommended.

CorkSol Approved Applicators

Why SprayCork is a Smarter Choice for Wall Rendering

Older render can crack over time, and painted finishes often deteriorate as moisture becomes trapped behind them. SprayCork is a coating system designed to address these issues by providing a breathable, protective layer suited to a range of wall types.

Flexible and Crack Resistant

Forms a flexible coating that can accommodate minor movement in the wall, helping to limit surface cracking.

Applied Over Existing Renders

Can be installed over sound render or directly onto prepared brickwork, depending on the condition of the substrate.

Breathable Finish

Allows water vapour to escape from the wall, reducing the build-up of moisture behind the coating.

Helps Improve Wall Temperature

Adds a thin insulating layer that can help raise the internal surface temperature of external walls.

Weather Protection

Provides a water-repellent outer surface that helps protect against rain, frost and general exposure.

28 Colour Options

Offered in a selection of colours to achieve a consistent finish across different elevations.

Adel has the designated Adel St John’s conservation area, which covers the historic village core around the Norman church on Church Lane. Any change to the external appearance of a property within this area requires written confirmation from Leeds City Council Planning before work begins — this applies to any new render or coating, regardless of the system used.

Both SprayCork and silicone render are breathable and vapour-permeable systems, which makes them generally more acceptable to conservation officers than impermeable masonry paint or cement-based renders. However, GreenCork will not commence external work on a conservation area property without the appropriate planning confirmation in place. We advise on this at the free survey visit and can help identify whether the specific property falls within the conservation area boundary.

Yes. SprayCork is breathable and vapour-permeable, which makes it compatible with the moisture behaviour of older stone-built and lime-rendered properties. It bonds directly to stone and lime render without requiring a cement base coat — which is important, because adding a cement-based system over lime render can trap moisture within the wall structure and cause long-term damage.

For properties in the Adel village core with original stone or lime render, GreenCork assesses the substrate at the survey visit and confirms system compatibility before making a recommendation. Where lime render stabilisation is required before any new coating can be applied, this is carried out as part of the preparation stage.

Yes. SprayCork is applied to the underside of polycarbonate, glass and solid conservatory roofs across Adel and the surrounding LS16 area. Many of Adel’s larger detached properties have substantial rear conservatories added during the 1980s, 90s and 2000s south and west-facing polycarbonate roofs are particularly prone to overheating during summer months given Adel’s elevated and relatively open aspect.

SprayCork on the roof reduces solar heat gain in summer and heat loss in winter, making the space genuinely usable year-round. Most treatments are completed in a single day with no external scaffold required and no planning consent needed in most residential applications.

Yes. This is the most common approach for Adel’s larger detacheds where the original brick front elevation is in good condition and only the rendered extension requires treatment. GreenCork can apply SprayCork or silicone render to the extension elevations only, with the system and colour selected to complement rather than match the adjacent brick.

Both options extension only, or full-property treatment, are assessed at the survey visit and quoted separately, so the homeowner can make an informed decision before any commitment is made.

A close match is achievable, though an exact match to natural stone is not possible with any render product. The Baumit MonoPlus and DecoRend MR1 ranges include warm buff, sandstone and limestone shades that work alongside the Millstone Grit and magnesian limestone colours typical of Adel’s older properties. GreenCork selects from the available range specifically to complement the existing material at the survey visit.
