Microcement Flooring
Approved Installers of Microcement for Flooring
GreenCork install seamless microcement flooring across Leeds and West Yorkshire, creating continuous concrete-style floors for homes and commercial spaces with minimal build-up and low-maintenance performance.
What Is Microcement Flooring?
Seamless Concrete-Style Flooring Across Every Room
Microcement flooring creates a single seamless surface across kitchens, hallways, living spaces and commercial interiors without grout lines, joins or transition strips between rooms. Unlike traditional floor finishes, the surface flows continuously throughout the property with a clean modern concrete-style appearance.
Installed at approximately 2 to 3 mm thick, microcement flooring can often be applied directly over existing tiles, concrete or screed without full floor removal. This makes it particularly well suited to renovation projects across Leeds and West Yorkshire where reducing disruption and avoiding unnecessary floor build-up is important.
Once sealed with a specialist polyurethane varnish, the floor becomes hard-wearing, low maintenance and designed for everyday residential or commercial use.
GreenCork Ltd install seamless microcement flooring across Leeds, Bradford, Harrogate, Wakefield, Huddersfield and surrounding areas throughout West Yorkshire with fully insured workmanship and systems installed to manufacturer specification.

What Floors Can Microcement Be Applied Over?
One of the main advantages of microcement flooring is that it can often be installed directly over existing floors, helping reduce disruption during renovation work. Below is a guide to suitable substrates and preparation requirements before installation.
Ceramic & Porcelain Tiles
One of the most common substrates. All tiles must be fully bonded with no hollow areas. Any loose, hollow or cracked tiles must be re-fixed or replaced. Fiberglass mesh embedded in base coat to bridge grout joints.
Concrete & Screed
Direct substrate for microcement. Must be fully cured, dry, and below 6% moisture content. New concrete or screed must cure for a minimum of three to four weeks. Any surface contamination must be removed.
Stone, Marble & Terrazzo
Suitable provided the substrate is fully sound and stable. Any loose sections or hollow areas must be addressed. Fiberglass mesh used across grout joints where present.
Timber Subfloor Panels
Suitable over OSB, plywood, Viroc and similar panel substrates. The subfloor must be fully rigid with no movement or flex between boards. Movement in a timber subfloor will telegraph through to the microcement finish over time.
Existing Microcement
Microcement can be applied over a previous microcement floor that is in sound condition. The existing surface must be sanded back to ensure adhesion. We assess the condition of any existing microcement during the survey.
Choose the Right Microcement Floor Finish
Microcement flooring can be installed across bathrooms, wet rooms, living rooms, hallways, bedrooms, open-plan kitchen dining spaces, conservatories, garages and outdoor areas, provided the substrate is stable, dry and properly prepared before application.

Microcement Floor Slip Resistance
All of our microcement floors are sealed with a water-based bi-component polyurethane varnish designed to provide a durable, easy-to-maintain surface with reliable slip resistance for everyday residential and commercial use. The sealed finish helps protect the floor from moisture, staining and general wear while maintaining the clean seamless appearance microcement is known for.
For areas where additional grip is required, anti-slip microsphere additives can be incorporated into the final varnish coat to increase slip resistance without significantly altering the colour or texture of the finished floor.
C1 50g Microspheres
Suitable for dry indoor floor areas with light or occasional water exposure, including living rooms, bedrooms and hallways.
C2 100g Microsphere Additive
Recommended for kitchen floors, bathroom floors and other areas exposed to regular moisture or everyday water contact.
C3 200g Microsphere Additive
The highest anti-slip classification, typically specified for shower floors, wet rooms and external terraces where maximum slip resistance is required.

Our 3-Step Microcement Flooring Installation
We install microcement flooring across Leeds and West Yorkshire using fully prepared systems designed for long-term residential and commercial use.
Survey & Floor Preparation
We inspect the existing floors, check moisture levels, assess tile adhesion and confirm the substrate is stable before installation begins. Any loose tiles, damaged areas or unsuitable surfaces are repaired and prepared beforehand.
Microcement Application
Primer and reinforcement mesh are applied before the microcement system is built up in multiple thin layers. The chosen finish is then hand-applied across the floor to create one continuous seamless surface.
Sealing & Protection
The floor is sealed with a water-based bi-component polyurethane varnish in gloss or satin finish. Anti-slip additives can also be incorporated where additional slip resistance is required.

Can microcement flooring be applied over existing tiles without removing them?
Yes, in most cases. The existing tiles must be fully bonded to the substrate with no hollow or loose areas. Any cracked, hollow or missing tiles must be replaced. A fiberglass reinforcement mesh is embedded in the first base coat to bridge the grout joints. We assess tile adhesion during the free survey — in most renovation projects, overcoating the existing tiles removes the need for a full strip-out and significantly reduces disruption.
Is microcement flooring slippery?
The water-based polyurethane varnish we use on all flooring is less slippery when wet than solvent-based alternatives. For additional safety, anti-slip microsphere additives can be added to the varnish to achieve C1, C2 or C3 slip-resistance certification. We specify the appropriate level for each area — C3 for wet rooms and shower floors, C2 for kitchen and bathroom floors, C1 for dry living areas. The specific microsphere quantities are confirmed in the written quote.
Does microcement flooring work with underfloor heating?
Yes, and it is one of the most thermally efficient floor finishes for underfloor heating systems. At 2 to 3 mm thick, it places minimal thermal resistance between the heating pipes and the room. The underfloor heating must be brought to full operating temperature, then switched off completely and allowed to stabilise before installation begins. It stays off throughout the installation and the four-week curing period, then is recommissioned gradually.
Can microcement flooring run continuously between rooms?
Yes. This is one of its defining advantages. Microcement can run from room to room through doorways without threshold strips, transition profiles or height changes at junctions, provided the substrate level is consistent across rooms and the door clearances are sufficient for the 2 to 3 mm added thickness. We check every doorway and threshold during the free survey.
Can microcement be applied to timber or wood flooring?
It can go over timber subfloor panels such as OSB, plywood, Viroc and similar rigid boards, provided the subfloor is completely rigid with no flex or movement between boards. Microcement cannot be applied over floating timber floors or laminate. These are designed to move with temperature and humidity changes, and that movement will cause the microcement to crack. The floating floor must be removed and the rigid subfloor beneath prepared correctly.
Can steam mop be used for microcement flooring?
No. Steam mops must never be used on microcement floors. The combination of concentrated heat and moisture penetrates the polyurethane varnish layer and damages the surface beneath. Microcement floors should be cleaned with a soft mop, warm water and a pH-neutral detergent only.
How much does microcement flooring cost?
Pricing depends on the total floor area, the rooms involved, the substrate type and condition, the finish option chosen and the level of preparation required. Open-plan projects covering multiple connected rooms are generally more efficient per square metre than single-room installations. We provide free site surveys and full written quotes for all flooring projects across Leeds and West Yorkshire. Contact us to arrange a no-obligation survey.
